2020 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme

The Embassy of Japan in Barbados is pleased to announce that it is now open for applications to the 2020 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme.

The JET Programme aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange at the local level through the fostering of ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth alike.

The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) of Japan, implements this programme which offers participants the opportunity to serve in local authorities as well as public and private elementary, junior high, and senior high schools in Japan.

Applicants may apply for the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) position. These participants will be engaged in language instruction and will be placed mainly in local boards of education, elementary, junior high and senior high schools in Japan.

Applicants must be Barbadian nationals in possession of a university degree, preferably in English Language, Linguistics or Education. Teaching experience would be an asset.

Applicants must also have a strong command of English, with excellent pronunciation, intonation and voice projection skills, as well as an interest in Japanese culture.

The ability to speak Japanese is not a requirement. However, efforts to study or continue studying Japanese prior to and after arriving in Japan will be given additional consideration.

Completed applications must be submitted by hand. The deadline for application is Monday, 2 December, 2019.

Application form and general information are available on the Embassy’s website only. For further enquiries, please contact the embassy at:
